Goalkeeper

A crazy goalkeeper am I
across the face of goal I fly
I got the job because I’m tall
It helps me leap and catch the ball

I’m not the same as other players
I wear a kit with extra layers
A different colour, padded shirt
So I stand out and don’t get hurt

Another thing that’s not the same
You’ve guessed it if you watch the game
A fact that’s known to football fans
The other guys can’t use their hands

I stand alone between the ‘sticks’
Protect out goal from long free kicks
From crosses, headers, shots and more
I mustn’t let our rivals score

The task is tough but I don’t mind
We goalkeepers are hard to find
To play the way we do takes ‘guts’
Some people think we must be ‘nuts’

I like it when I’ve played my part
By being brave and showing heart
It’s best to keep a nice ‘clean sheet’
And help my team avoid defeat
