Magic Show

The ‘Great Wizzo’ Magic Show comes to our town
He’s known as a showman, magician and clown
The posters all promise a mystical treat
So everyone’s rushing to get to their seat

The lights are turned down and the curtain is parting
The audience settles, the show is now starting
Onto the stage steps the ‘Great Man’ to cheers
A drum-roll so loud that I cover my ears

His first trick, amazing, in five seconds flat
A fluffy white rabbit jumps out of a hat
The next is with ribbon, balloons and a sword
Then one with some doves that has everyone fooled

His magic is awesome, his clowning is fun
Like when he pretends that his hat weighs a ton
Some juggling with skittles, while telling a joke
Before disappearing in clouds of white smoke

He then reappears on a donkey, no less
And where that was hiding is anyone’s guess
A card trick, then ‘Sawing the Lady in Half’
While telling more jokes, making everyone laugh

And now the finale, another drum-roll
The audience watches him climb up a pole
He stands on the top and leaps into the air
In sheer disbelief, I go cold and just stare

He flies round the stage for a minute or so
Yelling ‘Abracadabra, it’s time I must go
With music pulsating and spotlights galore
The audience leap to their feet, shouting ‘more!’

The ‘Great Wizzo’ lands back on stage and proceeds
To astound and confound with more magical deeds
But before very long, it’s the end of the show
After wild applause, we all stand up to go

There’s one final trick he has ‘tucked up his sleeve’
We’re asked to check under our chairs as we leave
As one lucky person is in for a treat
A present is hiding below someone’s seat

I look underneath, between cushion and floor
And can’t believe what I find as I explore
A ‘Great Wizzo’ magic set hidden away
This turns out to be one incredible day

The great man of magic appears next to me
We pose for some cameras and local TV
He signs on the top of the box with his name
Explaining ‘with practice comes fortune and fame’

We say ‘cheerio’ and proceed on our way
I can’t quite take in what has happened today
I’ll practice the tricks in this box ‘til they ‘flow’
Then I can perform in my own ‘Magic Show’
